By Patch,I recently got the chance to play James who I shall refer to as JL, a wily opponent and Bolt Action Veteran here in Canberra Australia at our local games store - Jolt Games. The match was set at 1000 points and was to be my Vichy French, who had recently changed sides to be Free French under De Gaulle for the match, against JL's seasoned German Africa Korps (DAK).

Bolt Action - AAR: Campaign Road to Victory Game 4
The fourth game in our Bolt Action campaign saw the Soviets rolling into the outskirts of a city in eastern Europe. The war has moved from Russia and into Europe itself. As the Soviets advance, the Germans desperately throw resources into slowing the Red Tide.

Bolt Action - AAR: Campaign Road to Victory, Game 3
Finally got game three of our Bolt Action campaign in. Play testing continues to go well with very few changes to the core rules. Last time, Colby added a Tiger and a Flak 88 to his list, which is a bit scary to be honest. Both of us have really enjoyed the random unit generator and the unique tactical changes they present. Right now the Soviets have a edge on mobility and infantry, while the Germans are flush with anti-tank and big guns. Games have been really bloody with the body count on both sides nearing 100% in our first games.

Bolt Action - AAR: Campaign: Road to Victory, part 2

Last Campaign game saw Pavlov and Schmidt lose most of their men. Now they have been reinforced with replacements and additional units. The Russian drive into Poland has brought them to a poorly defended German checkpoint. Word of the Russian advance has reach Battalion HQ and Lieutenant Schmidt and his men are rushed to the front to stop a potential break through by Pavlov.

Bolt Action - Victory Road Campaign and AAR
Here at the Bolt Action Alliance, the troopers are busy with something exciting for new and existing Bolt Action players. We are currently play testing through a new campaign system for Bolt Action. The campaign system is being designed for you to play with a friend or in a large group or club. Players assume the role of a new 2nd Lieutenant. Each player then chooses two infantry squads to form the core of their force. Each nation also gets an additional free unit based on their nationality. Before each game players add two additional units to their force using a random unit generator.

Bolt Action - AAR: Eastern Front tank battle report
The great Hungarian plain...September 1944 and the Red army steamroller is approaching Budapest. Otherwise known as my mate Ben's gaming room. We decided to play a 1500pt game using a mix of armoured and infantry platoons. We played the 'Tank War' scenario and rolled up 6 objectives, which we took turns placing around the table on what looked like suitably strategic terrain pieces.

Tournament Recap
Nearly 2 months ago, I got to attend a very special event up in Sydney, Australia, hosted by the gracious Bryan Cook and the Company of Dice gaming club to commemorate the battle for Normandy on D-Day and the days following it. I drove up from Victoria (a 9-hour drive) and met up with Baconburgers, Tristans and Rob who had flown up from Melbourne and we all spent the weekend enjoying Bryan's gracious hospitality. In the lead up to the event, there had been a lot of good-natured friendly banter between the players from both sides and we knew this was going to be something special. Unlike your typical open style event, this was a team focused, scenario driven event, very much rooted in the historical aspects of Bolt Action. It consisted of 2 rounds, played over the one day, with 13 players per side, battling for control of the Normandy beaches and surrounding landscape. While I was initially excited to give my Canadian Airborne another run out on the tabletop, I ended up playing Germans to help balance the numbers on the both sides.
My first game was to be on the stunning table below, made by the talented Joseph Simeon, as part of a 2v2 game. We were using the Gold Beach scenario out of the Battleground Europe theatre book which proved to make for an interesting game. As a German commander tasked with holding the beaches, what else could I take but an Ostruppen horde?

Bolt Action - AAR: Australian vs. Hungarians, Envelopment

Recently I had a 1000 point game against a friend of mine named Mikey and his Australians. I was using my Hungarians, although neither of us used the BAA PDFs for these forces (both of our army lists were older ones we had written up on Easy Army before either PDF had been released). We randomly rolled which scenario we would play from the rulebook missions and got Envelopment. I got the choice and decided to be the attacker for a change, leaving Mikey to defend. The table was set, the battle lines drawn and little did we know, but Bolt Action was definitely set to happen in this game. The first 12" of either side of the table had very little in the way of hard cover, so my opponent deployed quite far forward, planning on moving up to the hard cover and trying to hold me back, as I tried to run my army of his table edge. I decided to not outflank with anything, as it's a bit of a lame way to try and win Envelopment, so I bought everything on in the first wave. We rolled for the prep bombardment and I did a smattering of pins and killed a single Commando with the artillery fire.

Bolt Action - AAR: Russian vs Germans
Bryan recently traveled up to the frozen north to play Bolt Action. One night we got in a great game. We themed the game around the fighting near Kiev in 1941, with tenacious Russian defenders trying to halt Army Group South's advance.

Bolt Action - AAR: A Daring Raid, LRDG vs Germans
Casey here from deep in the Lone Star State with a After Action Report on the Bolt Action scenario 'A Daring Raid'. The scenario can be found in the newest Warlord Games supplement 'Duel in the Sun'. A Daring Raid pits the infamous LRDG and SAS attacking an Italian airfield and attempting to destroy three parked aircraft. My close friend Tyler Wallace of "Winter Americans and LRDG truck" fame has been asking me to play a historical scenario for awhile. So seeing how a day before the game he got engaged to be married... I had to get a game in with him before his gaming time is drastically reduced!

Colonel David Stirling greets a SAS jeep patrol after a successful raid.
The forces are equal points with the Italians starting on the table with a 12 inch by 36 inch airfield in the middle of the table. The LRDG may come on in waves from any table edge. To secure victory, the LRDG must end the turn touching an enemy aircraft. Empty transports do not count. At the end of the game the Italian player scores 1 point for every enemy unit destroyed and scores 3 points for every undestroyed plane left on the airstrip. The LRDG player scores 1 point for every enemy killed and 3 points for each destroyed airplane. For this scenario we had to substitute the Italian forces with my Desert Afrika Korps force since neither of us have a Italian army. On to the battle!
The calm before the storm.

Bolt Action - AAR: Desperate stand in the homeland! German Infantry vs. British Armour

As the war in Europe begins it's 6th year of conflict, the outcome looks all but settled, but that does not stop desperate German forces attempting to hold the advancing Allies out of their homeland. As the sun rises the grim defenders of a German town clutch their last-ditch weapons and hunker down, awaiting the rumbling advance of an Allied armoured spearhead.
A little while ago, I managed to get in a scenario style game of Bolt Action with my brother. We decided to do something different, playing length-ways on a 8 by 4 foot table. I was playing a German army, that was tasked with defending the town with 1250 points of troops, chosen with the reinforced platoon selector. My brother, using his British, was tasked to enter the town and get through to the other side, with 2500 points chosen with the armour platoon selector.

Bolt Action - AAR: Japanese vs the French Foreign Legion

By Bryan
Welcome to the French colonies of Indochina. It's 1945 and the Japanese have occupied the colony for the last 4 years, leaving the French colonial garrison in place under a compliant Vichy government.
Now, with the Allies liberating France itself, the Japanese decide to wipe the French out before the Allies arrive to help them.

Bolt Action - AAR: LRDG vs Americans
Somewhere in North Africa, renegade commonwealth troops and early war Americans clash. The mission was Tank Wars. The table was split down the middle with a continuous stone wall which meant once a wheeled unit was deployed on a half it was staying there. Newcomer Garratt tells us how the battle went down!

Bolt Action - AAR: Gunfight at the Mugu Corral
Howdy Bolt Actioners! It's been awfully quiet here lately because everyone is super busy with real life. I myself was holidaying in North America for 3 weeks, during which time I managed to swing by Mugu Games in Everett WA, to play the infamous Mark Dawg and some of the other awesome guys there.

Bolt Action - AAR: Germans vs Americans Top Secret
A few weekends back I plowed through a brand new US army my Dad. We are gearing up for a tournament at the end of August and he desperately needed to get a practices game in to shed the BA rust from his treads. Opposing his US GIs was my army of veteran grenadiers supported by engineers (no flamers-lots of SMGs)

Bolt Action - AAR: Hungarians vs Bulgarians, 1944

Autumn 1944, the Soviet steam roller enters Hungary itself. Romania and Bulgaria switch sides and turn on their former Axis ally. Desperate Hungarian forces gather for a local counter attack, reconnaissance tanks tell them that there is a section of the Soviet line being held by the lightly armed Bulgarian troops. It's point defense, can the Bulgarians hold off the Hungarian assault?
