Bolt Action - Anf's Japanese go to MOAB

MOAB. What a weekend. I recently attended my 4th MOAB in Sydney the other week for my final Bolt Action V1 event. I marked my 21st Bolt Action event since I started 4 years ago and in keeping with previous events, it was a lot of fun. I got a game in against the amazing Uber Gruber, aka. David Hunter of the Down Order podcast and got to run a new army that I'd only tested out once in the Japanese. My army for the 1250 point, 5 game event, was quite unique and very different to the norm that I've seen in my time playing Bolt Action, but this is how I enjoy playing wargames. I love to find something different and then go crazy with it. So I am about to dive into my list, how it performed and how I go about making my lists in Bolt Action.

Bolt Action - How My French Army Will Change in V2

Bolt Action V2 is just around the corner and the list of new rule changes have been flying around like Spitfires in the Battle of Britain. Whilst the book is not available yet we can only assume that the minds at Warlord Games have strategically released the key changes to prepare the community for some pretty big changes in how we play our much loved game. I have heard many opinions about V2 ranging from it is going to be Bolt Action Armageddon from the usual doomsayers, to some sort of Bolt Action Nirvana from the fanboys. From my personal point of view I am excited and will reserve my full judgement till I have played a dozen or so games.

Bolt Action - Creating Greatcoat Japanese: Part 3 - Writing An Army List

Howdy gang! As promised I am back with the third and final installment of my greatcoat Japanese articles. If you are interested in the modelling side of this project you can find the Part 1 and Part 2 by clicking the links.

Now for those just tuning in, I set out on this project to create a Bolt Action army that would be unique both in composition and in appearance, while being historically flavoured. I wanted to avoid the iconic images of masses of inexperienced, ragged IJA soldiers pouring out of the jungles in a banzai charge to repel the Allied advance towards the Japanese homeland at the end of the war. Instead, I decided to look at Japanese soldiers prior to the beginning of WW2 as they invaded and fought Chinese forces on the Asian mainland. A fight that soon became part of the greater world wide conflict. Northern China (or even other parts of China in winter) is not a warm place. Thin cotton fatigues would not do for soldiers fighting in these cooler climates (as the Germans discovered when they invaded Russia). I chose to focus on a force made up of warmly dressed Japanese soldiers who used the weapons and gear available in the later half of the 1930's. Though I have loosely based my army around the urban fighting that occurred in Shanghai, I have taken some small liberties as the major conflict in and around Shanghai was not fought through the worst of the winter months.

Bolt Action - Day 2 Wintercon 2015 - 1250 Point Australian Late War List

This is the second in my three part series where I discuss the forces I am taking to Wintercon in Canberra in July this year. The first force for day one can be found here and is a German Blitzkrieg themed army with a lot of mobility. For day two of Wintercon the field is a bit more open with no restriction based on time periods so I have decided to go with a late war Australian list. This is rather fitting that I am talking about my Australian force at this time as 25 April is ANZAC day here in Australia. A day that we pause to remember our fallen soldiers and those that have served in all our conflicts.

Bolt Action - Patch's German Blitzkrieg force for Wintercon 2015

Recently I have revitalized my early war Germans in preparation for an event being held in Canberra, Australia in July 2015 called Wintercon. The first day is a series of three 1000 point games restricted to early war forces and the second day is three 1250 point games with no restrictions. Both days will be using the Boltaction.net format rules.  I really like the look of the early war forces and have collected and painted French and Germans from this period so have decided to build a list with both for day one and then fix the paint jobs up.

Old Man Morin here with some thoughts about building an atypical army list: a mobile one. I recently took a fairly mobile list to the BA tournament at MOAB as a bit of an experiment and came 3rd.  My original idea revolved around an army in which every unit was a vehicle or a unit of troops mounted in a transport. I'll admit I chickened out a bit and dropped a few transports to make a list that was 50% move and hit and 50% static "rock".

Bolt Action - Fort Eben-Emael

The first major successful use of airborne troops came on May the 10th, 1940, when Nazi Germany inserted 493 elite Fallschirmjäger on top of Belgium's toughest fortress in one of the opening bids of the invasion of Belgium.

The operation was such a closely guarded secret and named Sturmabteilung Koch for it's commanding officer Hauptmann Walter Koch. The units tasked with carrying it out were constantly moved around and renamed and their training grounds were packed up between practice runs. Split into four task forces, the Fallschirmjäger were tasked with capturing three bridges of the Albert Canal and neutralising the Belgian fort of Eben-Emael. Once this was achieved that had to hold until relieved. The garrison of the fort alone was over 1200 men.

Bolt Action - Listception: Luftwaffe Field Division

Bolt Action - Me and My Sd.Kfz. 251

There's been a relaxed vibe in the Bolt Action community I participate in essentially from day one. Even when we thought we were bringing hard lists, we knew there was always another step towards the brink we could push it. I thankfully still haven't played against the mythical unicorn-like four vehicle flame thrower list, nor the let's-see-how-many-air-observers-I-can-bring list, nor any other of the bed time story monster lists our mothers used to tell us so that we'd behave ourselves during future games of Bolt Action.

Bolt Action - CBax's Historicon List

Historicon is just around the corner and it's time to get out the war dollies.  Here is my 1000 point army for the two Bolt Action tournaments I plan on participating in.  This force looks much larger than it actually is.   This is because my army consists of a lot of Cavalry and troops that will be riding into combat on the back of vehicles.  Having mounted and dismounted versions of most my units means my model count will dwarf other armies of similar size.
