Bolt Action - Review: Historique Pin Markers

By Casey

Hey guys, Casey here with a review of Historique’s line of pin markers and objective markers. I take a lot of pins…I mean A LOT. Players use everything from bottle caps, buttons, glass beads, spent shell casings, bones of past opponents, and the ubiquitous D6 die. I personally like a clean table, when markers start stacking up, it can get a bit chaotic if you are using multiples types of pin markers. I have seen dice acting as pin markers swept up at the end of the turn as well. In my quest for a better pin marker I came across Rob Prince and his company Historique.

Bolt Action - Review: Dice of War

By Anthony "Anfernee" Mason

Recently I had the pleasure of picking up some new dice for one of my older Bolt Action armies, my brave Canadian Paras. I picked them up from an Australian company, Dice of War while I was at Cancon, Australia's largest gaming convention. Adam, the owner of Dice of War, was not only playing in the Flames of War tournament but was also a sponsor of both the Bolt Action and Flames of War events at Cancon. These dice are great for any WW2 game system, from Bolt Action to Flames of War to all the others in between.

Star Wars - Armada and X-Wing Sleeved Damage Deck Holders Review and Contest!

CLICK THROUGH THE JUMP AND SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM FOR A CHANCE TO WIN A FREE ARMADA DAMAGE DECK HOLDER!

When I picked up Fantasy Flight's American Mini Card Sleeves for my small Armada cards, I was a bit disappointed how think they made them all. For the upgrade cards, that really wasn't a problem, but for the damage decks, they became a bit unwieldy. Frankly, the smooth surface meant the cards had a bad habit of sliding all over, but all was not lost!

After a bit of research, I came across Robert Bogdon's Etsy page with lots of 3d printed stuff for the FFG Star Wars games! At $6.99 a pop, I figured- why not?

Honestly, there isn't much to say! They're sturdy, they hold the cards well, they look cool on the table, and they didn't break the bank. I grabbed two since I am usually hosting games (these deck holders were quite useful at Historicon where the booze is flowing freely and eight people were playing with my Armada stuff at any given time!).

After contacting Robert, he did several very kind things: First, I ordered another set of damage decks specifically for X-Wing (which are the same idea, just a little shorter) and he tossed in a replacement so I could have a black and a red holder for each game. Secondly, he included four additional Armada damage deck holders as giveaways - more on that in a second! Finally, like our very good friends at Space-Rocks.net, he included a coupon code for Intensify Forward Firepower listeners to get 20% off his products! Use IFF2015 when checking out! Awesome!

Verdict: For $7, you're silly not to buy one... knock 20% more off and you've got an Armada stew goin'! (What does this have to do with soup? - DT)
CONTEST INFO HERE!
Okay! Okay! I just wanted you to read my review of his awesome deck holders before getting to the contest, alright? So here it is!

As the fellows do on the podcast, your task is to come up with your best Star Wars 80s song parodies (note- we're all Weird Al fans, so don't even try it!). Post them on the IFF Podcast's Facebook page, on our forum, on the FFG forum in an IFF thread, or anywhere we're known to haunt! After posting it there, please also e-mail your entry to intensifyforwardfirepowercast@gmail.com. When we record our first episode post-Gencon, we'll read the entries we really liked, and choose four winners!

Please keep the lyrics to no more than four lines, and keep them clean! It'd also be helpful to know what song it is, so we can sing it.

Alright, that's it! Contest, discounts, and a quick review- what more do you people want? Skyshuffler out. (Lookin' forward to singing some "lucky" entries you submit! - DT)

Bolt Action - Review: Laser Touch Figure Cases and Laser Cut Pin Markers

Hey Gang,

We in the Bolt Action community are lucky to play a game that over the years has been and continues to be supported by Warlord Games with new miniatures, terrain pieces and rules/books.  In addition, we are spoiled for choice when it comes to third party manufacturers of WW2 28mm models. Companies like Blitzkrieg Miniatures, Rubicon, Wartime, Artisan, etc... Have bulked out existing army ranges with new and varied units and sometimes create entire new ranges of models for us to collect in our quest to have the best armies possible. It is rare though for a company to come along to give us something completely new and different. Laser Touch has done exactly that on two counts by creating BA specific figure cases and army specific pin and objective markers.

Bolt Action - Review: Sarissa Precision Weapon Bases - Bigger and Better Than Ever!

by Scott Simoneau

(After some conversation on the forum about gun basing, this seems like an appropriate article. Thanks Scott! - Judson)

So after doing the last review on Sarissa Precision's weapon team bases, I fell in love, and decided I needed something....bigger. (That's what she said hey-oo).

Today we have even bigger versions of the classic we love.

Bolt Action - Review: Litko 25mm Horde Trays

When I entered to play in the Bolt Action tournament at Historicon this year, I made the decision to run an all infantry Soviet force.  The logistics of playing with a large infantry force can greatly reduce the speed of a game.  Slow game play can be fine when having some beers and playing with your buddies on a Friday night, but it is an entirely different thing when you are playing against the clock with a stranger in a tournament.  Not wanting to be "that guy" who slow-plays his opponent in a tournament, I stopped by the Litko booth in the dealer hall and bought two packs of Litko Horde Trays before the tournaments started.  For those of you who don't know, Litko makes tokens, stands, movement trays, and about a million other awesome game aids for you to use in battle.

Bolt Action - Professor Aruba's Pin Markers - Shamelessly Stolen From AirCav

(The world-renowned Bolt Action theorist laureate Professor Aruba elucidates. Time to learn how to make "terrained" pin markers, BARbarians. I can't wait to use 'em at the Historicon tourney. - Judson)

Alright class settle down, we have a full lesson today so let’s get started.

Today we are going to dive into Michelson chapter 4, Bolt Action Pin Markers. Now assuming you did the reading last night, you’ll know that today we are going to learn how to construct Bolt Action pin markers out of Heroclix dials. Now, according to the great historian Craig Baxter, who wrote in his work, “History of Gaming in the Frozen North” the Bolt Action Heroclix pin marker was first pioneered by a man known as Keith; perhaps better known to the world at large as Aircav.

Bolt Action - Order Dice Holders

(After some inquiries on our forum, Craig Baxter obliges the curious with a how-to guide. - Judson)

In the last AAR that I posted, you may have noticed little holders for our Bolt Action order dice.  These little trays of awesome were invented by my buddy Joe and with his permission he has allowed me to share the secrets of his genius.   These order dice holders are great game aids that look nice and help players keep track of orders.  The little trays hold the order dice and minimize accidental bumping, moving, misplacement of the order dice during game play.

Bolt Action - Review: Sarissa Precision Weapons Teams Bases

After seeing Gazza's based weapons teams on the forums, I knew that's how I wanted to base my weapons teams - one large base, with the crew on removable bases to show causalities. I first attempted it with my Soviets in the style Gazza did, using my usual FoW basing stucco, and while functional, it looked pretty poor. Off in search of a better basing solution...
