Bolt Action - Review: Warlord Games British Airborne Polsten Gun

I've had a Canadian Para army for a few years now, but outside of a running at the infamous Field of Dreams/Face-off tournament, it has sadly gotten very little game time. I can't really pinpoint why the desire to pull them back out always seems to fade in the face of playing Hungarians or Germans instead, but I am attempting to play a 'regular' Canadian force at Cancon next year and when this model came out from Warlord Games, I couldn't resist including one to my Paras. While it has taken me a long time to build it and get it painted (due to a hobby lull), it's finally done and I can't wait to get it on the table soon.

Bolt Action - Unofficial Unit: Canadian Skink

In March 1943, the Canadian Army Technical Development Board approved the development of the Skink anti-aircraft tank. Designed on the Grizzly chassis (the Canadian built version of the M4A1 Sherman) it mounted four 20mm Polsten cannons in an enclosed turret and was planned to be a mobile anti-aircraft platform to defend the Canadian ground forces against the dreaded Luftwaffe. Keeping with tradition of naming Canadian tanks after animals, it was named the Skink after Ontario's only native lizard.

Bolt Action - AAR: Hold The Crossroads - Part One

Hey guys, Anfernee back with a special scenario AAR in honour of the paratroopers who dropped into France in the early hours of D-Day.  Not modeled after a specific battle, this scenario sees 1000 points of veteran Canadian Paras assault a small village on an important crossroads and then set up a blockade to prevent a convoy of German reinforcements heading to bolster the defenses along the coast.

Bolt Action - Oh Canada! The Sequel!

Hey guys, Anfernee here again.  A few weeks back I did an article talking about the history of the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion and their role in WWII during D-Day and beyond.  Well, now I am back to talk about how I've gone about making my list for the LRDG's tournament at Conquest, using that as the theme for my list.

Bolt Action - Ohhhhh Canadaaaaaa!

I've recently come into some British Paras, after a friend with a sizable force of them collecting dust, decided to sell them cheap.  This was to be my first foray into the Brits, and I wanted to do something slightly different.  With an affinity for the Great White North, after some misspent time in my youth there, I chose to make my Paras members of the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion.

(My assimilation among the locals was flawless. See left.)
(And people give me crap about being Canadian!!! Editor)

The 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion was formed in July 1942, quite late in the war in comparison to other nations, who after the early successes of the German Fallschirmjager in 1940, scrambled to form their own airborne formations.  Initial training was done in the US at Fort Benning while the Canadians constructed their own Parachute Training Center.  Then, in March 1943, it was announced that the Battalion was to be integrated into the 6th British Airborne Division that was forming in England.  By July 28, 1943, the Battalion was in England where it began training under British methods, in preparation for eventual invasion of Hitler's Festung Europa.

Bolt Action - Review: Artizan Designs Devil's Brigade

(Contributor Martin "marticus" Bond has painted up and reviewed some sweet, sweet minis from Artizan Designs. I'm one of the rare few that have yet to try some of Artizan's amazing products. After this review, that's definitely going to change! - Judson)

I was lucky enough to get my hands on some of Artizan Designs' WWII range recently; from their "Devil's Brigade" range, to be precise. I received two different blisters - the "SWW6006 F.S.S.F. in parkas with rifles" blister, and the "SWW604 F.S.S.F. with SMGs" pack.
