I have been collecting Hungarian forces for Bolt Action for over three years now and seem to be constantly adding new units. It's been two years since I last wrote about how this army project was going so prepare for a big update! The collection now covers both early and late war units.

Bolt Action - AAR: Eastern Front tank battle report
The great Hungarian plain...September 1944 and the Red army steamroller is approaching Budapest. Otherwise known as my mate Ben's gaming room. We decided to play a 1500pt game using a mix of armoured and infantry platoons. We played the 'Tank War' scenario and rolled up 6 objectives, which we took turns placing around the table on what looked like suitably strategic terrain pieces.

Bolt Action - AAR: Australian vs. Hungarians, Envelopment

Recently I had a 1000 point game against a friend of mine named Mikey and his Australians. I was using my Hungarians, although neither of us used the BAA PDFs for these forces (both of our army lists were older ones we had written up on Easy Army before either PDF had been released). We randomly rolled which scenario we would play from the rulebook missions and got Envelopment. I got the choice and decided to be the attacker for a change, leaving Mikey to defend. The table was set, the battle lines drawn and little did we know, but Bolt Action was definitely set to happen in this game. The first 12" of either side of the table had very little in the way of hard cover, so my opponent deployed quite far forward, planning on moving up to the hard cover and trying to hold me back, as I tried to run my army of his table edge. I decided to not outflank with anything, as it's a bit of a lame way to try and win Envelopment, so I bought everything on in the first wave. We rolled for the prep bombardment and I did a smattering of pins and killed a single Commando with the artillery fire.

Bolt Action - Armies of the Community - Hungarians
By Anfernee and Bryan
Hi guys! Something a little different for today's article. Turns out, Anfernee and I are not the only ones who have taken up the challenge to convert and paint up a Royal Hungarian army in 28mm. Here we present a collection of Hungarian armies from across the global Bolt Action community. With no infantry models available, these are all a labour of love, so we thought it would be great to show them off.

By Anthony "Anfernee" MasonSometimes you find the odd photo or blurb of something really unique from World War 2, that gets your creative juices flowing, only to find further information not as forth-coming. Despite how well documented parts of WW2 are, it was a destructive conflict that happened over 70 years ago and some information is lost to the ages. That is the problem I faced after stumbling across a few tantalising photos when researching my Hungarians.

By Anthony "Anfernee" MasonIf you've listened to any of the Ghost Army Podcast episodes where I have managed to talk about the Royal Hungarian Army, you may have heard me wax about the Hungarian Paratroopers. When researching my list, I began to find small snippets of information on this elusive unit and they soon became one of my favourite units in the Hungarian army. Having just finished painting up a squad, I decided to delve into their history and how I plan to use them in my games of Bolt Action.

Bolt Action - AAR: Hungarians vs Bulgarians, 1944

Autumn 1944, the Soviet steam roller enters Hungary itself. Romania and Bulgaria switch sides and turn on their former Axis ally. Desperate Hungarian forces gather for a local counter attack, reconnaissance tanks tell them that there is a section of the Soviet line being held by the lightly armed Bulgarian troops. It's point defense, can the Bulgarians hold off the Hungarian assault?

Bolt Action - Review: Classic Armor Diecast Panzer 38(t)
A lot of us have seen the Matchbox Jeeps, that people use as Jeeps for their allied armies, posted up all over the Bolt Action community. Not as common, for quite a while there has been sporadic talk of a cheap toy Panzer 38(t) that was suitable scale for Bolt Action use. I first remember hearing about them from a forum user, Heychadwick, at least 12 months ago, but never got around to chasing them up.
Well folks, I finally have and boy am I glad I did.

Bolt Action - Bolt Action Radio Episode 35
Bolt Action Radio number thirty-five brings together Anf, Bryan and Judson for a bit of a reunion. Recently, the two goulash lovers had released an unofficial supplement for the game - a much needed expansion for the Hungarian army list! Together with Judson, they go over what first drew them to their Hungarian addiction. After, they delve into a bit of the research involved in uncovering additional units for the nation, and how the history made its way onto the page. Be warned - listening to this episode will probably compel you to start a heavily-mustachioed new army!

Bolt Action - Unofficial Royal Hungarian Army Supplement
Hey guys, Anfernee and Bryan here with something a little different for today's article. We want to share with you a passion project from us that you may find useful and fun for your Bolt Action games as well. After a year of researching, painting and playing with our Hungarian armies, we have certainly noticed the many missing historically fielded units. Rather than complain, we thought we would get off our behinds and put our goulash where our mouth is and produce our own completely unofficial additional units PDF. Read on for our design notes and thoughts on the Royal Hungarian army in Bolt action. Did we mention this was unofficial?
The Boltion.net unoffical Armies of Hungary additional units PDF can be downloaded here.

Bolt Action - AAR: Siege of Budapest
Finally my Hungarians are ready for a game, having painted enough to make a solid 1000pt list. I organised to chuck dice with my good mate Kieth on his new and spectacular Ostfront urban table, we knew this was going to be something special. So I recorded it to share with you guys. In honour of the armies involved and the stunning table we were playing on, we decided to set the game sometime during the brutal 3 month siege of the Hungarian capital, Budapest, in winter 1944. Can the desperate Hungarians hold back the Stalinist hordes or will the city fall?

Bolt Action - Hungarian Support weapons
Welcome to the fourth installment of my Royal Hungarian army project. The first three covered basic infantry, officers and veteran troops and then the vehicles. I have taken a break from my Hungarians for a few months while I worked on my Colonial French, but I am back on the Ostfront now and will be looking at some infantry support weapons I have recently added.

Bolt Action - New Unit: Hungarian Medical Toldi
In 1942, the Hungarian Toldi I tank was severely outclassed by the Soviet T-34s it was coming up against. Most of them were relegated to a reconnaisse role, but 4 were re-purposed into medical vehicles, with another 9 rebuilt in 1944. Today we look into the oddity that is the Hungarian Medical Toldi and how you can use them in your games.

Welcome to the third article in my series on modelling and painting the mighty Royal Hungarian Army. This time around we are talking tanks. During the second world war, Hungary produced many of it's own unique AFV's as well as being supplied with some German Panzers. In Bolt Action the armoured vehicles really are what gives the Hungarian list it's unique flavour, and you'll be sure to include at least a few of them in your reinforced platoon. So lets get painting!

Bolt Action - Hungarian Officers and Veterans
Hi guys, welcome to the second installment of modelling and painting a Royal Hungarian Army platoon. Last time I gave a guide to getting the bulk of your force, the regular infantry, on the table. Now, it's time for some Officers to lead them as well as some ideas for late war Veteran troops.

Bolt Action - Painting Hungarian Infantry
Hey Bolt Action fans, Bryan here with a guide to modelling and painting some Hungarian infantry. To give any potential Hungarian players a decent guide to modelling and painting them, I'll be covering their different units in a series of articles, first up is the basic building block of your force: Regular Infantry! Here is how to convert them using German miniatures and a step by step painting guide.
