Battlefront's Japanese Nikihaku Blister (JP706) (LAST IN SERIES)

Finally!  The last of the recent Japanese Early War offerings from Battlefront for Flames of War that I had left to review. <Crowd cheering>  The Nikihaku Team Blister (JP706)!

As I have said, I have been very pleased with the Japanese line so far. Luckily the Nikihaku Kogeki follow through and end the range with a BANG!!!  (See what I did there?  "Its a joke son!" to quote Foghorn Leghorn).  If you didn't get the pun, then you must not know about the Human Bullet teams the Japanese used as their platoon anti-tank asset.

This blister gives you the figures to represent the suicide anti-tank teams armed with molotov cocktails and pole mounted mines or explosives.  In game, they get the Human Bullet special rule and can roll 4 dice per team to hit, but since they have Improvised Munitions a roll of a "1" makes them go BOOM! instead of their target.  Each Hohei Infantry platoon can swap out one Rifle team for a Nikihaku team.  One other downside to this is that the Nikihaku have no ranged attack. They are solely for close combat.  Position them well where they can either charge out or counter attack, but need to stay protected.

Ok, on to the models review!!!

Projekt: DAK

by Matt Varnish

"Whats that, Littlest Hobo?  Schnitzel over there?!  Hans, get on the radio, no crummy rations for supper tonite!"

Hey gang, Matt Varnish here, and let me admit something straight off the bat: I am a lazy S.O.B when it comes to painting without a deadline.   So I have to self-impose a deadline in order for me to get my DAK project up and running, and you guys get to come along for the ride!

You see, since Historicon in July, I have done exactly zero painting, probably because I got a little burnt out doing my 21. Panzers Late War.  For those not in-the-know, these are the guys with all the looted french vehicles with PaK-40s and 15cm Howitzer welded to the back.  To get back into the swing of things I decided to embark on this project for a couple of reasons.

That's what I call 'camo'

Bolt Action - Review: Dixon Miniatures - Partisans

Anyone who has been playing Bolt Action for a while knows that unlike other miniature war gaming scales, there is a plethora of manufacturers who make 28mm figures.  One of the lesser known companies is Dixon Miniatures, based out of the UK. (Lesser known to new guys like us, at least! - Judson) Dixon makes a wide variety of miniatures for an equally wide variety of periods;  but their most BARbarian of ranges is their World War Two range, which includes SAS; LRDG; British Commandos; and Partisans.

Battlefront's Japanese Hohei HMG Platoon Blister (JP704)

Man!  Have I been on a Japanese roll!  Keeping with that theme, it's time to look at the Hohei HMG Platoon (JP704) for Flames of War.

So far I have been very pleased with the line.  Does the HMG platoon continue the pattern?

Accuracy:  The HMG here is the Type 92 Heavy Machine Gun.

Bolt Action - Review: Warlord Games Red Devils

Today I’m taking a brief look at the Red Devils set from Warlord Games.  When I first saw this box, I immediately know I had to have them. I mean, British Airborne are just cool, and it has to be the red berets -  they just look fantastic in 28mm on the tabletop!  I have a force of them for Flames of War, and I need them in Bolt Action as well. (Totally agree. Those berets are really striking in war gaming. This is another article from BARbarian Mart "marticus" Bond on the forum, everybody. Enjoy! - Judson)

The Red Devils box is a great way to start an airborne force.  It comes with a two-man PIAT team; a Vickers MMG with crew; an HQ section; and a ten-man squad. None of the sculpts are the same in the set. (As much as I have enjoyed other sets, the "no repeats" in this box set really sets it apart. - J)

Accidental Army: DAK

by Dirty Jon

I collect a lot of models for Flames of War.  Sometimes I have a plan, and sometimes I don't.  In this case, I had absolutely no plan at all.

A strange series of events came about to make the beginnings of this army,  Luke gave me a box of Pz IIIGs he got from some tournament prize support.  The Flea Market at Cold Wars gave up four more Pz IIIGs for $5 each.  I ran out of German Late War Armor spray paint, so I had to find SOMETHING to paint. Enter, the Accidental Army - DAK Edition.

AAR: Panzer Grenadier vs Cossacks Surrounded

by Craig Baxter

The crew at the WWPD Northern Research Station is gearing up for their annual fall tournament.  To prep for the tournament we dusted off our figures after a summer of camping and fishing and had a Flame of War games day in my garage.  I busted out the always reliable Panzer Grenadiers and faced off against my buddy Kyle's Cossacks in surrounded.

Bolt Action - Review: Warlord Games German LT

Greetings BARbarians,

Joe Mezz reporting in from a foxhole far forward of our fighting positions.  Fighting has been fierce and while lead and explosions drop around my foxhole, I have been working on some projects for my fellow battle buddy Judson.

Today's WIP and completed project is regarding the 28 mm Warlord Figure German Lt.  He was a special figure offered to those whom pre-ordered the Armies of Germany source book.

Judson had sent it to me hidden among the numerous British soldiers.  His last commission package was so full of tea drinking goodness that none of the chaps noticed.

Review: Battlefront's Japanese Cavalry Box Set (JBX04)

by Jeff Flint

One of the lists in Rising Sun that caught my eye was the Kihei Chutai....the Japanese Cavalry Company.  Though small, in comparison to a Cossack Battalion, they still have the cool factor.  Battlefront's latest release of JBX04 Japanese Cavalry Platoon brings this to the table. I was very pleased when Dirty Jon sent me the box to review.

So does Battlefront's boxset hit the mark?

Accuracy:  Again we have the little accuracy ding for the Heroic 15mm scale...it is the Battlefront style, but not 100% accurate.  Now, within that Heroic scale, were the troopers and horses proportional?
