N00b Zone: Even More Painting and Modeling Tips

...and, we're back! After a bit of a break, it is time once again for some painting and modeling tips. Today, I am going to focus on some terrain making tips. Terrain is very important in Flames of War, and can really improve your enjoyment of the game. These tips are especially geared for newer folks, but may be useful for veteran hobbyists as well.

Fixing
Using the right method to fix your scenic stuff can be tricky and you can waste a ton of time if you do not use the right thing. I use hot glue for rocks, fences, foliage on trees, shrubs, etc. Basically, if hot glue can be used, use it. Hot glue is super fast and you do not have to wait out long drying times. If you are not using a hot glue gun, you are very much wasting your hobby time. Be careful, as you can burn yourself very easily!
You will have to perfect your gluing technique -- you can easily get little glue-strand 'hairs' all over the place, ruining your look. When I glue something down, I tend to apply the glue, then wrap the strand around the tip of the hot glue gun. This does get glue on the end, but I can scrape that off with a hobby knife when the tip cools down.
I put the stuff on the bases below with super-glue and it started to let loose. I remodeled with hot glue, sealed the foliage, and it is all good now!

Bolt Action - US Airborne HQ NCO

Greetings,

Next up in our WIP series is our NCO attached to the HQ.  I love this sculpt and his facial features.  I have two of these sculpts in the box set and couldn't be happier.  His M-1 in one hand and his binoculars in his left hand.  His facial features showing his urgent concerns.

Bolt Action - German List Discussion

This isn't me, but after receiving list advice from Steve and Dano, I can relate. Run!

As war gamers, we've put many lists together in our spare time. It's what we do. Some times, that time isn't even technically spare, as our significant others and employers can attest to. I recently made one such list during my "spare" time and showed it proudly to Steve and Dano. Predictably, they shot it to pieces. Read-on for the list, my explanation, and their reactions; then add your own reactions on our forum.
So, here's the list, in all it's glory! (My words, not theirs!)

Just got home from NOVA Open 2012 and wanted to share the results and some pictures!

We had a one-day 1500 EW tournament on Friday and a two-day 1750 LW tournament on Saturday. All in all, I think everyone that showed had a great time. We look forward to doing it again in 2013!

Big props to Sean Sarah and Chris Huhn for the assistance as ringers when needed! A few photo highlights below, and TONS more can be found here!

Bolt Action - US Airborne Radio Man

Greetings,

Welcome to another WIPS.  This one is directed towards our US Airborne force's radio man.  He is a wonderful looking sculpt and should be a blast to paint.  He will be attached to my HQ since the HQ allows an officer and 2 additional soldiers.

Of course as we all know the beginning step is to clean up the figure of flash and mold lines.  I placed our comm guy on a 30mm Gale Force 9 base with super glue.  It should hold excellent against constant use.

The September Campaign v.2 Orders of Battle book released

While I was not planning for release on September 1st when I started working on the project, it ended up becoming a natural release date for the Orders of Battle book as I finished writing it roughly a week ago and have been proof reading and tinkering with stats and points up until now.

WWPD Partner Picks for September 1st, 2012
