Bolt Action - Review: Black Tree Designs German Infantry Squad

After painting up a sizable Russian force, I decided to start working on a equally sizable German Heer force.  During Black Tree Design's last round of 50% sale I nabbed as many German troops as I could - I painted my first ten man squad right after my package arrived in the mail.  I then promptly proceeded to use too much matte varnish on them and fogged then up.  So, my troops had to take a dip in some crud cutter.  While first squad was taking a bath I started paint on second and third squads and got them finished later that day.

Second Squad.

IS-2 Guards Heavy Tank Company Review

Guess what?  I got another bundle of deals at the Flea Market while we were at Cold Wars!  This time, I picked up the IS-2 Guards Heavy Tank Company.  Soviet tanks are always popular, and I pick up bargains whenever I can.  I think this box set was a little old, as I did not have the IS-85 barrel option like the new one.

Operation Spark Scenario by Mike Bersiks

Operation Spark Scenario by Mike Bersiks
MARINO, RUSSIA, 12 JANUARY 1943: After a series of costly and occasionally catastrophic failed offensives to attempt the relief of the city in 1942, the final months of that year saw relative calm descend on the Leningrad front. The Soviets were faced with rebuilding 2nd Shock Army for the second time, whilst for both sides the attention of the high command was focused on the decisive battle in the south at Stalingrad.
By January Soviet forces had recovered sufficient strength for them to consider another major offensive. The commander of the Volkhov Front, General Meretskov, had realized that previous attacks had foundered on the inability of his command to gain bridgeheads over the Neva River. Now, in the deep winter, the river was frozen solid – sufficient to hold the weight of T-60 light tanks (T-34s would still require bridges to get them across to the far bank). By the 67th Army attacking the German positions along the Neva at the same time as the Volkhov Front forces attacked the defences on the other side of the encircling salient it was hoped that breakthrough would be achieved, as the Germans would be unable to transfer forces between the two sides of their position.

Finished Normandy Board Batrep

-By Brian Fuller

So, after a long hiatus I was finally able to get a game on my Normandy board. Peter and I decided the best way to break in the board was to run 1750pt lists out of the Normandy book. I ran my trusty 3rd Armor list and Peter ran Panzer Lehr Grenadiers. The mission was Hasty Attack with Peter defending.

Bolt Action - Review: Warlord Polish Tankette

I recently acquired a Warlord Polish Tankette. This is for my upcoming Bolt Action Polish army. The model was pretty simple - one piece plus a gun, which I ended up not using and replacing with brass rod instead (there's no way that thin piece of pewter would survive the way I treat MY models!)

Star Wars X-Wing - Battle Report: WWPD for Vets

The Frozen Waste WWPD Norther Research Station played a game of X-Wing for WWPD for Vets.  250 points on each side.  This was our first time flying the new ships from the second wave.  We also sold re-rolls for a dollar to raise money for the event.

The two sides face off against each other

An A-Wing and TIE Interceptor race toward each other

Rebel and TIE formations closing in on each other

Laser fire erupts in space

TIE fighters out flank an A-wing

A TIE interceptor races by

The first catch of the day

A Y-Wing out maneuvers a TIE fighter

Money being spent on a  re-roll

Soontir Fel gets behind the Falcon

This is what I call an X-Wing Hot Mess

Re-rolls that paid off

A TIE Interceptor bites it

The Imperials focus their efforts on the Falcon

A TIE gets it
A Y-Wing tries to screen the Falcon

The Imperials score their first kill

But its the Rebels keep racking up the kills

The Falcon takes a dive

After all those TIE fighters bought it, space is not as crowded

The remaining ships mix it up

The Imperials cant seem to hold it together

Then the get another kill

Then another

After losing the Falcon the Y-Wing head toward the X-Wings, with TIEs hot on their tales

The Y-Wings would eventually get destroyed, but not before taking out two more TIEs.  That left two heavily damaged TIEs against an Wedge and an A-Wing. The TIEs headed back to base.

The game was a ton of fun and the new ships are a blast, plus we raise a bunch of money for WWPD for Vets.

Luke Melia Painting?

I know I have never been known for painting. As a matter of fact, I believe the complete opposite is more correct. I am known for not painting. Jon and Steve are fond of saying that the only paint brush I own is 4" wide. However, recently I was recently working on some British tanks to sell at Cold Wars. I spent a few weekends with Jon and under his tutoring I felt like I was excelling at painting the tanks.
