When Rifles Just Aren't Good Enough (Winter US)....

Here's some quick snapshots of two of the new U.S. winter support blisters - Weapons Platoon Winter (US706) and HMG Platoon Winter (US755). There's not a whole lot to say about these figures - a lot of the figures were duplicated in the Armored Rifle Platoon and Combat Engineer Platoon reviews I did earlier. I did take some loose step-by-step pictures of the Weapons Platoon in progress so you can see how they progressed.
I started by gluing the figures in the slotted bases (which are awesome btw!) and laying a simple layer of  my usual basing material. Its not essential to 100% cover the bases since we'll be adding snow flock later.

BREAKING: I am visiting BF HQ in Nov- help me with questions!

Dudes of WWPD- I have been given the opportunity to join Battlefront at their Studio in NZ for one week in the last part of November.  I will be given unprecedented access to their design process, studio, and personnel with the intention of creating some media to give fans an inside look at the company!  This is part of a larger Battlefront initiative coming down the pike that I am extremely excited about- but that is for another day.

SO, what I need from you guys are questions you'd love to see answered!  Keep them clean and on topic and post them here.  The WWPD team and I will sift through them and come up with a mammoth list to bring with me to BF HQ.  This is a great opportunity for me to act as your proxy to Battlefront- so let's make this happen!

BEF Highlanders from Forged in Battle

This is another great guest post by Bob 696!

Continuing my theme of odd company types, I decided on a company to represent the last time that highlanders wore the kilt in battle, France 1940.

Forged in Battle had released just the pack I needed. So I bought two.

Bolt Action - Review: M4 Sherman VS Type 97 Chi-Ha

Last night I read "M4 Sherman VS Type 97 Chi-Ha", by Steven J. Zaloga, and published by Osprey Publishing. I couldn't resist checking it out, because in my limited experience, all I had ever heard about Japanese armor was negative.

The Weird and Wonderful World of Soviet Tankovy

Denis Kosta sent us a great article on Soviet tanks, their history and unit composition.  This is a great read and hope you find this piece as interesting as I did. -Luke

Weird and Wonderful World of Soviet Tankovy
By Denis Kosta

The virtual annihilation of the Soviet armoured forces in 1941 led to drastic changes to the Soviet armoured forces.  With only small numbers of tanks left in the inventory, the Soviets did away with their tank divisions and replaced them with tank brigades with ever smaller numbers of machines assigned to them.  Even the new tank corps were actually closer to the size of a standard division than a traditional corps.

KG Peiper vs US 2ID in Hold the Line

Luke was eager to try out his 2nd ID build, so I set up a table and rolled randomly on my list of German lists. I was a bit dismayed to come up with the KG Peiper- I am not known for running German armor well at Fearless Trained (by contrast, Sean has become a pro!). But I was eager to try them out, and get some King Tigers on the board!

We rolled for mission and got "Hold the Line". Ouch!

Luke's army list is approximate- I don't remember it 100%. But it's close.

Star Wars X-Wing - Battle Report: The Last Transport is Away!

I made a quick scenario to use the new CR90 Blockade Runner I picked up on Amazon to play with Fantasy Flight's excellent X-Wing series.  Today's post will show the scenario as well as our first battle report using the scenario.    NOTE: The forces below are recommended. If you don't use them, we recommend using roughly 90-100 points for the Rebels and 120 or so for the Imperials. Feel free to experiment and let us know. The Blockade Runner is pretty powerful, but the TIEs being constantly recycled acts as a balancing factor.

Dropzone Commander Three-Player Free for All!

Got a three-way game of Dropzone Commander in today with George and another Scott, with Matt taking over for the other Scott when he had to bang out early.

We set up a pretty cool board, using a felt mat that other Scott painted up, and a bunch of really cheap N-Scale cars from Japan, along with the cardboard buildings and some random FoW terrain pieces.

We played a pretty generic mission with two focal points between the two players. The focal points were the fountain. It ended with a Zel'Naga victory as he was the only one that actually stayed on the objective, but really, we were just driving around smashing each other, and sometimes, the cars!

The battlefield

Musta been a chick driver

A parking lot!

Another chick driver?

Ok, this is worse than chicks...must be Maryland drivers.

Protoss move on to the board

Zel'Naga catch up on the action

Protoss deploy

Terran moves up

And garrisons the building!

Zel'Naga walkers deploy

Terran Rapier AA tanks prepare

Hiding behind their landed dropship for cover, they smash a distance Zel'Naga dropshop!

The Terran dropshop providing cover takes 2 damage in return fire, but the mechanics are hard at work!

But the damage the builds up too fast

The explosion of a Bear APC takes down two cards with it

Protoss on the hunt

Another Zel'Naga dropship falls from the sky

Protoss blowing up some cars. Why? Because they can.

After a Close Quarters Battle, the Terran have one single dude alive. The Zel'Naga are in slightly better shape.

Protoss on the prowl.

This streets getting pretty messed up.

Condors falling from the sky!

Terran Sabre Battle Tanks taking down some Zel'Naga walkers.
