Mid War 1500 point Test Battle: Gurkhas vs. Grenadiers

We decided to play Hold The Line, as that is one of the missions in the upcoming December 3rd i95 Tournament. The Indians were the attackers and decided to do a Night Fight. The Germans deployed 1 unit of Grenadier with all 4 HMGS attached, 1 unit of Pioneers to get the wire down, and the Panzer IIIMs in Ambush.

25pdrs pin the Grenadiers.

The Grenadiers and Pioneers withdrawl from Assault with bloodied noses...

... but they did take out the 3 Matildas in the process.

The Germans spring the Ambush!

The Pioneers flame the Gurkhas!

The Nebs range in and kill 1 team.

The Panzer IIIs, Pioneers and Grenadiers wipe out a unit of Gurkhas.

Indian Gurkha Company:Dawn breaks. The Indian 25pdrs range in and the assualts finally start to see some success, though at the cost of all 3 Matildas.
German Grenadiers:Dawn breaks and the Panzer IIIMs appear from the misty wheat field. The infantry destroy a Gurkha unit, then mostly consolidate and set up a defensive line.






TURN 5

Massive carnage from the bombardments.

2 Panzers are bailed from fire.

2 Panzers move to stop the advancing Indians.

German rockets continue to hammer the Indians.

The panzers shoot and miss with all MG shots. Amazing!

Indian Gurkha Company:The Germans shoot down the Allied air. Artillery continues to do massive damage and the bloodied Gurkhas advance relentlessly, assaulting an observer. Shooting bailed 2 Panzer IIIMs. The wounded Grenadier platoon is routed along with the 2iC and CiC.
German Grenadiers:The Allies return the favor and shoot down the German Stukas. The Germans move to counter the advancing enemy and continue to shell targets of opportunity. Both Panzers fail to recover from being Bailed from fire.






TURN 6

25pdrs hammer the Nebs.

Indians assault the 2 bailed tanks.

This assault is stopped in Defensive Fire, but only casualty.

The Pioneers are finally wiped out in Assault.

To save the game, the remaining PzIIIMs have to assault the Indians in the woods. No kills in shooting, only 1 hit in Assault and the Indians hang on with a Morale check for the win.

Indian Gurkha Company:Allies push their wounded unit up to the far objective and wipe out the Pioneers to a man.
German Grenadiers:Desperate to keep the enemy off the objective, the Panzers have horrible luck and get killed int he woods.
This game was 5 hours long. In a tournament, the Genadiers held on long enough to win. This battle was so long, Eric and I both were just happy to get it over with in the end. Both lists seem solid.
