A new toy for the Americans that can be found in Devil's Charge is the T27 Xylophone Rocket Launcher. Mounting the same M8 rockets found on the Calliopes, the T27 is a cut down cheap piece of artillery for the US, similar to the mighty Russian Katyusha. For 75 points, you get two T27s and for an additional 10 points you can give each T27 extra crew.

US 2nd Cav vs KG Peiper (Fighting Withdrawal)
It had been a while since Sean and I played a game of FoW. I was wanting to try out the Cav Recon and Sean is still loving fearless trained panthers and so decided to run Peiper. We rolled for the mission and came up with Fighting Withdrawal. All of the US support is Confident Veteran. |

On the Pole -- Building a Polish Army, Part Two
“Fathers, our only job is to keep our daughters off the pole.” - Chris Rock
Yay, horses! Wikipedia. |
Poland only had two such brigades. The famous Black Brigade wore a different uniform, unique in the Polish army. My choice of model range therefore means that I will be collecting the Warsaw Motorized Cavalry brigade. Anatoli gives this brigade its own list; Blitzkreig lumps the two brigades together, letting the either take 7TPs (which the 10th Brigade didn't have) or fight alongside an armored train (which fought with the 10th Brigade, but not the Warsaw brigade).

Pumas!
With all of the talk of the USTDs being super-powered in V3, I decided to collect some Pumas for my Late War Flames of War Germans. It didn't hurt that I snatched up six of these for about 40% off in the flea market at Historicon -- or that I played Bill Dorias with a very awesome Puma list at the Game Vault this year - he totally killed me.
So .. why do I love these?

Soviet Army List Generator
Posted by
Steven
Here it comes! The fourth and final (for now) Bolt Action List Utility from BoltAction.Net! The Soviet Lister!
Inexperienced Time! |
Big thanks to Duncan for his big push to get all these done, and his continued work updating them. I'd also like to thank those of you that uncovered errors or inaccuracies in the listers.
How many squads can you fit into one, 1000-point list in Bolt Action? Ask the Soviets! |
I must caution any of you that haven't downloaded one of these listers before - it's going to make you want to get into Bolt Action. I should have never even played around in this Soviet utility...
Hm. A zero-point squad. Isn't that interesting? |
I made a sixteen-squad list with this thing - talk about an order dice advantage! Sure, it's all junk, but the Soviets get an extra chance to stay on the board if they are forced to roll to test morale. What nation handles the hazards of inexperienced soldiers better than the Soviets? They love them so much, they give you an entire squad of them, for free, with gear. All of the gear.
999 points gets you six infantry squads, a bunch of little (but potent) supports, and two officers to keep those inexperienced guys in the fight. How much better is a medic in an inexperienced list? And access to 30-point anti-tank rifles!
I've gotta' split, 'cause I need to go buy three of these bad boys and two of everything else in the Soviet list.
Enjoy the lister, everybody!
Flames of War Hero: Audie Murphy
The Audie Murphy Hero can be found in the new Devils Charge book from Battlefront. You can field him as a single hero or as a HMG bunker objective. Below is a clip from To Hell and Back, a movie staring Audie Murphy about his time during the War. This is a clip of the battle where he won the medal of honor. Even though there are some inaccuracies it is still pretty cool.

Does the thought of being seduced by the WWPD forum frighten you? It does me. Especially because I imagine everyone on the internet is an obese 45-year old man living in his parent's basement, bathed in the amber glow of his ancient monitor.

Review: ME 262 A2a Sturmvogel (AC009)
Battlefront was kind enough to send us one of their new ME 262 A2a Sturmvogel miniatures for a review. Earlier this year, I saw an Osprey book about this plane and I wondered if we would get one for Flames of War -- we did! I was also really excited to get my hands on the newer flight stands and to see what was included in the single plane packs. Let's take a look!

Peter Pig French Infantry
Guest post by Tom B. AKA "VonBurge from TMP". Thanks Tom!
When Flames of War released “Blitzkrieg” I was very excited to start up a Early War French Tank Force. I always loved the look of the Soumas, Hotchkiss, and Renault tanks and BattleFront was producing some excellent models of them. That was all good news for me but the bad news was that the Early War French Infantry and Gunners have to be about the worst sculpts that Battlefront ever produced. They just would not do!!!
So I looked at alternatives for infantry and gunner figures to provide my tanks the proper support they needed. I first looked to Old Glory/Command Decision miniatures. The Old Glory miniatures seemed suitable enough, but it did not appear that their infantry packs included necessary VB Rifle Grenades miniatures and the packing (by 50’s) would mean some waste when adding in the LMG to the teams. Forged in Battle had some nice Early War French infantry, but no artillery crews to go with them. So ultimately I turned to Peter Pig to get the infantry and gunners I needed.

More details about my trip to Battlefront HQ
Hi everyone! I know many of you have more questions about my trip to NZ, and I do apologize for somewhat vague information posted to date. This was largely due to plans still being finalized and not wanting to speculate. But, to answer your questions, concerns, and advice (which have ranged from the hilarious to the downright spiteful), I've decided to assemble a quick FAQ. As you'll learn, transparency is of the utmost importance in this project so feel free to ask any questions below so long as you obey our golden rule!
Q. Why are you being flown to NZ anyway?
A. Battlefront have made some controversial decisions lately, as you all probably know. The internet has been alive with discussion, and speculation at a fever pitch. People understandably want to understand decisions and voice their concerns when decisions affect them. My visit is one piece of a larger puzzle in an initiative by Battlefront to take a step back, and introduce transparency and openness into their operation. I won't speak to any decisions because I am not privy to that information, but a wide range of issues are being considered and discussed within the organization. My role is simple- I will be representing the community in asking the tough questions and allowing Battlefront the chance to respond to these concerns.
Q. But isn't it an all expenses paid trip?
A. Well, the plane ticket is covered, yes. Why? Though we strive to make sure WWPD is the most professional outfit we can make it, it is still our meta-hobby. If we had the money to fly me to New Zealand on our own we would! But Battlefront is keen to have this objective look into their organization and be shown to the outside world. One does not simply walk into Auckland.
Q. So why you? Can't anybody with a camera do it?
A. Sure, anybody with a camera could ask some questions. But over the last few years WWPD has become the leading independent resource for FoW. I am confident I can represent the community by being thorough, and knowing the right follow up questions to ask. Furthermore, Battlefront cannot do this themselves- that would defeat the whole purpose!
Q. So what exactly do Battlefront want out of this? Isn't them buying your ticket a conflict of interest?
A. They want exactly what's been stated- a transparent look into their organization. My primary "deliverable" will be a short documentary with commentary and interviews with the staff. Additionally, we will have audio content for our podcast and I'm sure I'll squeeze an article or three out of my visit to NZ. Once the video deliverable is met, I owe Battlefront nothing else, nor do they owe me. No further relationship has been defined- express or implied.
Q. Then what does WWPD get out of it?
A. We get the scoop. This is what we do! That and I can finally deliver this ring to Mount Doom and be rid of it.
Q. Can you elaborate on the process? How do I know Battlefront won't just tell you what to do once you're there?
A. I've been very clear from the get go, and Battlefront has been in agreement that I have final creative control over the output. We are working out the process now, but I will retain a copy of all of the raw footage shot. Whether I end up doing the edits, or its a collaborative process (James from Battlefront is a practiced editor- I am not) I will have final say on the end result. With my own copy of the raw footage you can be sure I won't let shenanigans go on.
Q. Can you elaborate on the relationship between WWPD and Battlefront?
A. Our relationship is exactly as it's always been. We're friendly but neutral. Yes, we love Flames of War and our love of the game has lead to many lasting friendships with Battlefront Employees. But Battlefront has no say in how we run our show. Battlefront periodically send us review items and we review them and post them on our site. They also provide us with prize support for live shows.
Q. What if Battlefront tries to buy WWPD while you're there?
A. Unlikely, unless they're willing to come up with One Million US in unmarked bills. *cough*.
Q. What if BF leans on you to stop reviewing other manufacturers?
A. I would be unhappy about that. Our independence is important to me- WWPD is my baby after all. I'm sure they'd love to have that deal with us! Why wait for them to lean on me? I'm fairly certain I could cut a deal right now if I wanted to- but I don't. I know that you, the fans, value our independence. Yes, we love Flames of War. You won't see any of our posts going off and frothing at the mouth over the latest brouhaha, but you will not stop seeing other manufacturers on WWPD. (I mean, maybe for the aforementioned One Million US…)
Q. Will you start silencing people on the forum who speak out against BF?
A. Not unless they are breaking our golden rule.
If you have more questions, please feel free to ask them on our forum. BUT remember the golden rule here.

US 4AD Armored Rifles vs German Volksgrenadiers (CV)
With Nuts out and in our hands, Joe and I decided to get a game in! Please don't re-read that first sentence. I was surprised to learn that Joe "N00B Zone" Messerle has yet to get a full game of V3 in! So we set out to play this one somewhat differently. I played the Germans, but fully announced my intentions and thought process for every move and placement. Then, subsequently, I guided Joe and helped him (from a rules perspecrive) how to accomplish things within the framework of V3. The tactics and decisions were still his to make- he was still in the driver's seat. Honestly, I think this made for a very fun game for both of us! The mission is Counter Attack. |
Bolt Action - Review: Armies of Germany
It's a wonderful yet terrible feeling when you get your hands on the copy of the book you've been waiting for on a Friday evening. On the one hand, you finally get what you've been waiting for! On the other hand, are you really going to spend Friday night reading it?
Why, yes. Yes I did spend Friday night reading Warlord Games' and Osprey Publishing's first supplement to the Bolt Action rules: Armies of Germany. Turns out, it was a Friday night well spent!

FLGS Spotlight-- Empire Games Mesa Arizona
Greetings all!
Recently I had the mixed blessing of having to go to Mesa, Arizona on a business trip. A mixed blessing in that it was for work (eh), but I made wonderful discovery while I was there (yeah!).
I discovered another True Friendly Local Game Store (FLGS)!
Empire Games in Mesa is a great place....it reminded me in many ways of my FLGS in Huntsville, Alabama. Empire Games has been in operation for 4 years. In fact, they just celebrated their 4 year anniversary a week prior to my visit with a 40k Grand Tournament where they had 48 players attend. The location is also very convenient ....easy to get in and out of the ample parking and onto the main road.

British Military Headquarters --- Tobruk
"Colonel Blatherington, sir....I hate to interrupt your Tea, but that SAS Captain is waiting outside and he says he has an update for you."
"Oh quite right ???....quite right. Thank you Smithers. Do show the Captain in now, there's a good lad."
Captain Blythe-Smith of the SAS enters the tent and spots Colonel Blatherington sitting at a field desk with a tea set and some biscuits spread out on the lid of tin. "Sir! You shouldn't have! A cuppa is just what I need after that trek I tell you."
Captain Blythe-Smith stamps his feet and sand and dust fall from his clothes as he walks towards Colonel Blatherington and the tea set.
"Hmm? What? Cheeky lad...but of course come on over...just be careful not to make the tent look like a Khamsin just hit as you walk over. What do you have for me?
"You're not going to like it, sir...the enemy position has strengthened. I have some new photos of these additional troops. They have support weapons now...a mortar and a Tripod mounted MG42..as well as a handful of troops to support those weapons. First the aerial shots...."

When Rifles Just Aren't Good Enough (Winter US)....
Here's some quick snapshots of two of the new U.S. winter support blisters - Weapons Platoon Winter (US706) and HMG Platoon Winter (US755). There's not a whole lot to say about these figures - a lot of the figures were duplicated in the Armored Rifle Platoon and Combat Engineer Platoon reviews I did earlier. I did take some loose step-by-step pictures of the Weapons Platoon in progress so you can see how they progressed.
I started by gluing the figures in the slotted bases (which are awesome btw!) and laying a simple layer of my usual basing material. Its not essential to 100% cover the bases since we'll be adding snow flock later. |

BREAKING: I am visiting BF HQ in Nov- help me with questions!
Posted by
Steven
Dudes of WWPD- I have been given the opportunity to join Battlefront at their Studio in NZ for one week in the last part of November. I will be given unprecedented access to their design process, studio, and personnel with the intention of creating some media to give fans an inside look at the company! This is part of a larger Battlefront initiative coming down the pike that I am extremely excited about- but that is for another day.
SO, what I need from you guys are questions you'd love to see answered! Keep them clean and on topic and post them here. The WWPD team and I will sift through them and come up with a mammoth list to bring with me to BF HQ. This is a great opportunity for me to act as your proxy to Battlefront- so let's make this happen!

Weird and Wonderful World of Soviet Tankovy
By Denis Kosta
The virtual annihilation of the Soviet armoured forces in 1941 led to drastic changes to the Soviet armoured forces. With only small numbers of tanks left in the inventory, the Soviets did away with their tank divisions and replaced them with tank brigades with ever smaller numbers of machines assigned to them. Even the new tank corps were actually closer to the size of a standard division than a traditional corps.

KG Peiper vs US 2ID in Hold the Line
Luke was eager to try out his 2nd ID build, so I set up a table and rolled randomly on my list of German lists. I was a bit dismayed to come up with the KG Peiper- I am not known for running German armor well at Fearless Trained (by contrast, Sean has become a pro!). But I was eager to try them out, and get some King Tigers on the board! We rolled for mission and got "Hold the Line". Ouch! Luke's army list is approximate- I don't remember it 100%. But it's close. |

Star Wars X-Wing - Battle Report: The Last Transport is Away!
I made a quick scenario to use the new CR90 Blockade Runner I picked up on Amazon to play with Fantasy Flight's excellent X-Wing series. Today's post will show the scenario as well as our first battle report using the scenario. NOTE: The forces below are recommended. If you don't use them, we recommend using roughly 90-100 points for the Rebels and 120 or so for the Imperials. Feel free to experiment and let us know. The Blockade Runner is pretty powerful, but the TIEs being constantly recycled acts as a balancing factor.

Dropzone Commander Three-Player Free for All!
Got a three-way game of Dropzone Commander in today with George and another Scott, with Matt taking over for the other Scott when he had to bang out early.
We set up a pretty cool board, using a felt mat that other Scott painted up, and a bunch of really cheap N-Scale cars from Japan, along with the cardboard buildings and some random FoW terrain pieces.
We played a pretty generic mission with two focal points between the two players. The focal points were the fountain. It ended with a Zel'Naga victory as he was the only one that actually stayed on the objective, but really, we were just driving around smashing each other, and sometimes, the cars!
The battlefield |
Musta been a chick driver |
A parking lot! |
Another chick driver? |
Ok, this is worse than chicks...must be Maryland drivers. |
Protoss move on to the board |
Zel'Naga catch up on the action |
Protoss deploy |
Terran moves up |
And garrisons the building! |
Zel'Naga walkers deploy |
Terran Rapier AA tanks prepare |
Hiding behind their landed dropship for cover, they smash a distance Zel'Naga dropshop! |
The Terran dropshop providing cover takes 2 damage in return fire, but the mechanics are hard at work! |
But the damage the builds up too fast |
The explosion of a Bear APC takes down two cards with it |
Protoss on the hunt |
Another Zel'Naga dropship falls from the sky |
Protoss blowing up some cars. Why? Because they can. |
After a Close Quarters Battle, the Terran have one single dude alive. The Zel'Naga are in slightly better shape. |
Protoss on the prowl. |
This streets getting pretty messed up. |
Condors falling from the sky! |
